Enabling automatic
updates in Windows 2000
If you want your computer to automatically
download and install any updates to Windows 2000,
you can configure it to do so by enabling automatic
updates. To do so, from the Start menu, choose
Settings | Control Panel. Double-click on Automatic
Updates. Select the Keep My Computer Up To Date
check box. Then, below Settings, select the
appropriate option for downloading and installing
the updates. If you want your computer to
automatically install all updates, select
Automatically Download The Updates, And Install Them
On The Schedule That I Specify. Then, configure the
schedule you want your computer to use for these
updates. Finally, click OK to save your changes.
Take advantage of
internet time (Windows XP)
If you're like most people, your PC's clock is
always slightly different than that of your watch,
or your wall clock, or your cubemate's clock. Want
to be sure your system always displays the correct
time? Well, you can, by synchronizing your PC's
clock with internet time.
Double-click on the clock in your system tray,
and then select the Internet Time tab in the Date
And Time Properties dialog box. Select the
Automatically Synchronize With An Internet Time
Server check box, and then click Update Now. You'll
need to wait several seconds while the
synchronization takes place. Then, click Apply and
OK to close the dialog box.
Automatically Clear IE 6's
Temporary Internet Files
Instead of cleaning out your
Temporary Internet Files folder
yourself, you can save some time
and disk space by having it
automatically cleared every time
you close down your browser.
Just go to Tools | Internet
Options and click on the
Advanced tab. Scroll down to the
bottom of the list and select
the Empty Temporary Internet
Files Folder When Browser Is
Closed check box. Click OK to
save your change. Now you won't
have to think about it again.
